A STEP FORWARD IN IMPROVING EDUCATION
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

ISIS DELLA BASSA FRIULANA is an educational institution consisting of 6 High Schools: IstitutoTecnicoTecnologico Malignani and Polo Liceale Einstein in Cervignano del Friuli; Istituto Tecnico Tecnologico Malignani and Istituto Professionale in San Giorgio di Nogaro; Istituto Tecnico Economico Einaudi and Istituto Professionale Mattei in Palmanova. Being located on the north-eastern border of Italy, our school has always had a relevant international vocation and has been carrying out valuable European projects involving teachers and students mobility since 2004 (Interreg –Comenius , etc). At present ISIS BASSA FRIULANA can boast a keen team of CLIL teachers who have been implementing CLIL modules in their classes for the last 10 years and is an active member of the CLIL network in Friuli-Venezia-Giulia. However, the limited number of teachers involved doesn’t fit the increasing and ever changing needs of multi-inter-cultural education and has to be increased. Thanks to Erasmus + call 2015 we will be able to offer in-service training (through language and methodology courses and job shadowing) to a large number of teachers who are willing to hone their language competence and teaching skills. In addition, the current project will pave the way to further student mobility projects, which is actually our long term goal. According to a survey carried out by the key staff working on this project 3 main needs have been identified: 1.language and methodology training for CLIL teachers; 2.methodology refreshment and teaching skills development for language teachers; 3. observation and knowledge of other European education systems (for both CLIL and language teachers) . As a consequence 15 teachers are applying for a job shadowing experience in Finland, Ireland, France and in the UK and further 9 teachers and the principal are applying for language and methodology courses in the above mentioned countries. To this aim 6 European schools have been contacted and they are ready to host our teachers; some of their teachers will be hosted in turn as they too feel the need to develop their international dimension and to improve the language competence of their students, the latter being pointed out particularly by the British schools . The teachers involved in the mobility project are expected to disseminate their acquired knowledge and competences in their schools, and in other local institutions and organizations working in the field of education, by planning CLIL lessons and producing ad hoc CLIL materials which will be implemented at school and published on the eTwinning platform and on the school web-site. Moreover, a conference will be organized with the aim of illustrating the mobility experience and the huge potentiality of a European curriculum. The expected short and long term results are: 1. the setting up of a stable CLIL planning group at ISIS DELLA BASSA FRIULANA; 2. increased number of CLIL teachers within our institution; 3. improvement of language competence and teaching skills of our school staff; 4. further students mobility projects between our institution and European schools; 5. creation of a 5 year CLIL course in our institution; 6. deeper knowledge of the cultures of the partner countries; 7. improvement of the language competence of our students; 8. internationalization and development of European intercultural awareness in our education system.
