"A peace of art"
Start date: May 1, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

This youth exchange aims to give young people an opportunity to meet each other across borders in Lommel, Belgium, and to discuss personal, cultural and international issues and to do this by the help of arts with which everybody can express him/herself and his/her national identity. In the summer of 2015 27 young people from Belgium, Germany, Italy, Estonia and Moldavia will visit the German war grave cemetery for 2 constructive weeks of workshops and activities. The young participants will demonstrate how friendship can bring different cultures together and help not only the young generation but also the European community to face the conflicts of the past and work for peace in future. Our objectives are to learn about each other an eacht others culture, to create awareness considering war/peace/european citizenship...and to transform some negative feelings/thoughts into positive and progressive ones, by using arts and reflection. The participants learn to work together and create a group feeling beyond borders. At the end they will see the advantages of working together, when all the artpieces are finished and shown to others. Each country will bring 6 young participants and 1 or 2 leaders. They are youngsters between 16 and 25 yeas old. They should be interested in arts and history and international cooperation. They have to be open minded towards other cultures, youngsters, past and future. We will organise some groupbonding activities like a bikeride though Lommel city (to discover the local community, dut also to draw the local community towards the exchange/project), High adventure parcours, citytrip to Brussels. An other important part of the exchange is the link to history, war, peace and comtemporary issues. We organised a guided tour on the cemetary, an eye withness conversation, small debates and a (history inspired) flashmob to stimulate the reflection abouth this topics. In the 2nd week the youngsters will participate in artworkshops (theater, dance, music and visual arts), organise a presentation festival to show the locals what they did during the exchange but also to celebrate the obtained friendship! Everything will happen through open and good communication, where 1 leader is chosen to organise and motivate the youngsters. As a result we aim to create some inspiring en instructive "art peaces", aswell as a videoclip abouth the exchange. We hope that the youngsters understand the advantage and necessity of international, european and intercultural dialogue for a peaceful and conscious world!
