A path to meet each other
Start date: May 1, 2016, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

ATD Vierde Wereld is in touch with some young in Flanders. These young people participate to its actions on the same level as older people. Sometime they participate to some youth action with the European youth dynamic of ATD Fourth World (called Djynamo), but never as a group. With the experience they have of participating in the middle of other groups, these young people wanted to form a Flemish group and participate in a youth exchange as a group. They asked ATD VW to help them in that task, ATD VW asked the coordinator of Djynamo to help this new group to build a youth exchange with some other groups of Djynamo. For this first exchange as a group, young Flemish wanted it simple, so only with one partner and preferably in Belgium. The Polish group answered directly to the proposition to share its experiences of youth exchanges and youth group with the young Flemish. Some of the main objectives of this project are to consolidate this group, meet other young people and culture, and start a youth dynamic in Flanders. We have also some other objectives:- Fight against cultural and social prejudices through multicultural exchanges to reinforce values of European citizenship, solidarity and friendship- Learn about community life: respect standards and schedules, collaboration with daily tasks (cooking, cleaning ...)- Learn from the organization of the exchange: preparing and leading discussions, workshops, meetings with other associations, games ...- Gain self-confidence, the ability to interact with others; strengthen youth in their ability to access an active life in society and the labor market.During this exchange 18 young people will meet in Brussels. Some of them have the experience of living in extreme poverty, other not at all. But they all refuse this society of exclusion an commit themselves to meet young people they can't meet in their daily lives.- The first day of the program we expect the collective creation of rules of coexistence and distribution of daily tasks, taking into account the expertise of each one and the priority of cultural and social mix. Youth empowerment and respect of the group and other foster self-confidence making and creating an atmosphere of conviviality and freedom of expression.- We will have workshops to know each other, and artistic activities to meet and express non-verbally, gain confidence in others.- We will construct a path in the garden of ATD's house of Brussels. This will be the contribution of youth to the renovation of the house we use for our meetings and activities.- A visit of Brussels and Oostende organized by Belgian people. It's a mean for Belgian people to share their knowledge and the culture of their cities and country.- Cultural exchanges. We will have some time to discover the reality of young people living in poverty in each country, but also how are living young people in each country, what they like to do, the music they listen, etc...- Informal exchanges times: tour, relaxing day, party; to strengthen friendshipDuring the coming months both groups will prepare some activities for the parts of the program they take in charge. They will stay in touch via emails and skype. In the beginning of May, 2 persons of each group will meet in Brussels to coordinate all the activities, give some news about the work in the groups and adjust their work to be ready in July.As results and impacts from this exchange we expect that young people from both side will:- Overcome personal difficulties- Get practical knowledge about organizing a project- Discover different ways of involvement in societyWe also expect that this multicultural experience will build or reinforce attitude of acceptance towards another persons coming from different backgrounds, and that it will also have a relevant impact on the work of ATD Fourth World, especially European youth dynamic Djynamo by empowering its network with a new group. We really hope that this meeting will allow new young people to join us in our fight against extreme poverty. Youth who participated in the organization of this program have gained experience that will allow them eventually to collaborate in the organization of other events inside the dynamic youth of ATD Fourth World or other, so they can get other young people, who do not have this experience, involved.
