A Midsummer Nightmare - Art Festival
Start date: Feb 1, 2010,

Martröð á Jónsmessunótt/ A Midsummer Nightmare: An art festival in the middle of summer and in the heart of Reykjavík; by young people - for young people. The festivals main focus will be on the many different types of art and young artists practising them. The festivals aim is to get European artists to participate in the event along with the Icelandic ones. The festival will warmly greet young musicians, designers, artists, poets, dancers and other types of young artists who want to put their name out there but maybe can't easily do so at big festivals like Listahátíð í Reykjavík because of their young age and lack of experience. Martröð á Jónsmessunótt/A Midsummer Nightmare wants to give everyone the chance of spreading their art and get the participants more involved so they can control how they want the festival to be. Martröð á Jónsmessunótt/ A Midsummer Nightmare will be held both in- and outdoors of downtown Reykjavík from the 24th - the 27th of June. The festival draws its name from the well-known Midsummer Night,(the 24th of June) which is widely celebrated around Europe with festivals of different kinds. The festival draws its name from that day and also the well-known Shakespeare play "A Midsummer Night's Dream". Since both the play and celebrations on the 24th of June often involve supernatural creatures, the organisers of Martröð á Jónsmessunótt/A Midsummer Nightmare felt it was appropriate to change the name of the festival a little bit according to that.
