A functional reconversion project for S. Andrea and Vrtojba border customs inspection areas - (functional lot - main works )
Start date: Aug 31, 2004, End date: Dec 30, 2004 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project for the functional reconversion of the border customs inspection areas is closely connected to the entry of the Republic of Slovenia in the European Union and to the new customs provisions. The project falls within this framework and consists in the regeneration and reconversion of the customs inspection areas of S. Andrea and Vrtojba through the technical and structural connection - integration of the two Italian-Slovenian adjoining facilities, in order to create an advanced logistic platform capable of dealing with international trade flows along Corridor 5. From a technical point of view, the project is divided in two phases, main and complementary works. The main works consist of a railway junction to be set up between Gorizia and Vrtojba, with the creation of a road - rail platform. Specifically, the works carried out consist in the creation of a double connection on line on the run track of the railway Gorizia - Nova Gorica in the section between Gorizia and Vrtojba; the creation of a freight yard for the loading and unloading of the carriages with three tracks running parallel to the railway, independent and equipped with working shafts. The two innermost tracks - the closest to the customs inspection area - are level with the ground so as to allow accessible to vehicles.
