A Development and Educational Project for Men and Women Working Pedagogically with Young People

The project sets out to identify and establish a set of recognised work practices for employees who work in a variety of schemes with marginalised/at risk youth. These employees often lack formal recognition of their work experience, and, to this end, the project will outline 'good practice' in this area. The six project partners, representing five countries, will document and report upon their own and other organisations' experiences in working with marginalised/at risk youth in their own country. These findings will be made available in a handbook via the project website. Project partners will investigate and identify good practice with a select group in their own country. In an effort to ensure the transferability of findings between countries and provide a basis for the mutual evaluation of practices, each partner will be visited by another partner and, in turn, will themselves visit another partner. Findings from the cross-national identification of good practice will be developed by the project partners into proposals for educational courses to enhance the working practice of employees working with marginalised/at risk youth. Educational courses will be piloted with select groups in the partner countries. Course quality will be assessed during the visit from another project partner. The findings from the pilot will be evaluated during a meeting of all the project partners and relevant adjustments will be made to ensure uniformity. The project results will be disseminated in print, via the internet and on CD-Rom. An international conference involving project partners, international experts and educational decision-makers, will assist in the project's evaluation and dissemination to a wider audience.
