A complete approach for the joint management of natural resources in the cross-border Area aiming at the promotion of ecotourism and the protection of ecosystems (NATouR)

The project aims to promote ecotourism and preserve the natural resources of the ecologically sensitive areas where project partners are located.The main objectives of the project are:(a) to promote new alternative and sustainable tourism approaches such as ecotourism with the use of innovative means and promote cross-border cooperation on the sector of ecotourism and natural resources management, (b) to support environmental bodies to their tasks of protecting the natural resources and environment and also informing and mobilize the public, (c) to create a single and integrated cross-border ecotourism destination, (d) to support the sustainable development of the cross-border area with the enhancement of the pre-existing infrastructure.The objectives will be achieved with the use of innovative tools such as a GIS application integrated to the web portal, infokiosks, a web portal etc. Expected Results: The project envisages a set of innovative actions and the creation a joint partnership for the preservation of natural resources through the promotion of ecotourism. The implementation of the project will conclude to a complete strategy for the preservation, management and promotion of the natural resources of the Cross-border Area and moving the strategies for the development of ecotourism one step forward: into the creation of a single cross-border ecotourism destination. As described in detail the Project is focused in Natura 2000 areas and aims at the protection, the effective management and the promotion of these Natural reserve areas with principles of sustainable development and seizing the opportunities of ecotourism as defined in the Operational Programme Greece - Bulgaria 2007-2013.The project will be developed and implemented according to strategic studies and research related to the promotion and development of ecotourism in the area thus ensuring the quality of the expected results.The project is highly innovative and uses rather modern methods to ensure the participation and the mobilization of the Public. Some of the innovative tools which are parts of the programm include • The NaTouR WEB Portal with technologies to promote the participation of the public• GIS application integrated to the WEB portal and the infokiosks.• Infokiosks to enhance the visitors experience and address the demands of EcotouristAs a conclusion, we should note that the project caters for a significant upgrade of the quality of life and the protection of the environment in the CBC area
