Call description

Do you want to work with partners beyond national borders, developing new products and working on pre-competitive research? Do you want to access new markets, technologies and skills? Do you want to gain recognition through your involvement in a large research project?

ITEA 3 may be the ideal tool for you.

ITEA is the EUREKA Cluster programme supporting innovative, industry-driven, pre-competitive R&D projects in the area of Software-intensive Systems & Services (SiSS), a key driver of innovation in Europe’s most competitive industries. ITEA stimulates projects in an open community of large industrial players, SMEs, universities, research institutes and user organisations. As ITEA is a EUREKA Cluster, the community is founded in Europe based on the EUREKA principles and is open to participants worldwide.

Once a year, ITEA organises a Call project proposals each year starting with a two-day brokerage event. In a two-stage procedure, the quality of the project proposal is evaluated and improved, finally leading to a selection of high quality project proposals that receive the official ITEA label. The ITEA label provides project partners with the possibility of applying for public funding from their national authorities.

Two-stage Call process:

  1. Producing a Project Outline (PO) , which gives a short overview of a project. Project Outlines which are positively evaluated are invited for the second step
  2. Producing a Full Project Proposal (FPP), which describes the project plan and how the project will be executed and managed. Approved FPPs will receive the ITEA label.

Eligibility criteria

Project consortia need to have at least two different partners from two different countries, of which one must be a EUREKA Member Country and another one either a EUREKA Member Country or a EUREKA Associated Country.

ITEA Project Outlines and Full Project Proposals will be evaluated and selected according to the following criteria:

  • Relevance to the ITEA Programme
  • State-of-the-art
  • Innovation
  • Expected impact
  • Exploitation
  • Consortium
  • Project management and work plan
  • Effort justification
  • Contacts with Public Authorities

Funding details

The ITEA label is endorsed by all EUREKA Member Countries and financial support can be provided according to national funding procedures. In order to prepare a successful proposal, you need to be aware that there may be significant differences in funding procedures. You must therefore make sure that your project proposal fits within national public authorities' priorities and funding rules before you submit it to ITEA.

ITEA Office provides contact details for various national funding contacts which support and coordinate the funding of ITEA projects (the ITEA Authorities Committee - ITAC).

For countries not represented in ITAC, you should contact the appropriate EUREKA National Project Coordinator.
