About Me

Stamatis (Akis) Boyatzis teaches Materials Science, Characterization Techniques and General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry at the Department of Conservation of Antiquities and Works of Art (CAWA) of the University of West Attica (formerly, the TEI of Athens).
He has received his Doctoral Degree from the University of Athens. Topic: Chemiluminescence of organic molecules; experimental work pursued in NCSR Demokritos.
Techniques used: GC-MS, LC-MS and direct insertion probe MS in the investigation of structure of binding media, polymers, natural and synthetic resins.

Currently involved in the use of molecular spectroscopy (mid-infrared and UV-vis) in structural investigations of proteins such as collagen, keratin, binding organic media, and their degradation as well as the study of archaeological remains.
Worked as Post-doctoral Research Associate in the University of Champaign-Urbana (Illinois, USA).
Employed by NCSR Demokritos in charge of the GC-MS and LC-MS facility (Institute of Physical Chemistry) and by the University of Patras as collaborating lecturer in the Department of Materials Science.
