Regional Council of Durres
Regional Council of Durres (PIC number 929134095) is a regional government institution in accordance with the European Charter of Local Autonomy, which is the right and effective ability of local communities to regulate, lawfully, under their responsibility in accordance to the best of their populations, a good part of public affairs.
Background and Experience
Region of Durres is one of 12 Regions in Albania. Its area is 766 km ². It has a population of 402,943 people and a coastline of kilometers. The district includes Municipalities of Durres, Kruja and Shijak. Within this area you can find high mountains, landscapes and seacoast. The main Airport and Harbor of the country are located in the Region of Durres.
The main function of the Regional Council of Durres is the building & implementation of Regional policies and their harmonization with the state policies on a regional level. The Regional Council of Durres comprises a staff of 15 employees of different professions with distinguished management capacities in several fields of activities who work in different departments including regional development policies, economic management, urban development, foreign relations, human resources, project management etc. The Department of Regional Development Policies is in charge of programming the priorities and developing projects, coordination of public and international donor financing and follow up their implementation. Some priorities are:

- Infrastructure and environment
- Local government
- Demographic development
Regional Council of Durres has participated in different Programs of EU, such as: IPA Crossborder, Interreg MED, Interreg Adrion, with project : DELMVET - Develop an efficient management model local educational and vocational training; - statistical data on tourism in the area; Zero Waste- Web-based network of events and festivals with a low impact on the environment, Horizontal Project SYNGGI - Synergies for Green Growth Initiative; ISTEN - Integrated and Sustainable Transport in Efficient Network, I-STORM -Integrated Sea sTORm Management Strategies, etc.
The Regional Council Durres has been working within the community to tackle and avoid circumstances and problems that lead to social exclusion, such as poverty, unemployment or low income, housing problems and becoming housebound and isolated due to illness.
