About Me

The Construction Technologies Institute (ITC), the main building research Institute of Italian National Research Council, carries out activities dealing with technological exploitation, technical evaluation and certification, technological transfer and training in the construction sector with a particular focus on the investigation of either new or traditional materials, economic and environmental assessment of buildings according to a life-cycle analysis (LCA) and life cycle cost (LCC) approach supporting the design phase, new methodologies and tools to assess construction components and systems from a performance-based perspective. The Institute is actively involved in the assessment and improvement of the use, accessibility, safety and quality of the built-up environment. Among the areas of ITC’s expertise there are methodologies and tools for the energy-environmental sustainability of buildings and enhancement of the historical and architectural heritage, recovery and damage prevention.
ITC has also several laboratoratories, outdoor test cells and experimental full-scale buildings which allow to assess acoustic and thermal-energetic performance of façade elements, windows, roof and technological sun shade elements in real working conditions. The analysis and the evaluation of building materials, components and systems are carried out also during construction and operational phases of buildings.
