the identity of the city is a nesessary prerequisite for its competitiveness. Verbal language does not adequately convey the features of the image of the city. My search allow to use visual methods to research, quantify and record the unique features of the city. The method was tested in a large-scale project to renovate the historic quarter in the city of Irkutsk (Siberia, Russia). Currently a pilot project is being implemented to research the identity of the city of Sofia (Bulgaria)
