It is extremely important for the Republic of Serbia to urgently define the terminals which would serve as the collecting stations for ship waste in accordance with the international regulations, primarily in accordance with the Recommendations of the Danube Commission for waste management for inland navigation on the Danube, Protocol on prevention of the water pollution caused by navigation to the Framework Agreement on the Sava River Basin harmonized by the Sava Commission, and the results of the current EU projects in the region.

Defining the terminals with the accompanying infrastructure for collecting, disposing and treatment of waste produced during the navigation of vessels on the waterway network of the Republic of Serbia is extremely important for protecting the water quality. Organized ship waste management would solve the problem of disposal of waste from many foreign and domestic users of the international waterways passing through the country, which would considerably improve the ecological status of the waterways of Republic of Serbia.
