Our project "Voith goes Europe – Building Skills" is a project we are going to apply to for 19 commercial trainees. The trainees are technically, practically excellence trained by us in Heidenheim, and the theoretical content by the training school. The increased international focus of the company is due to our combined dual training. To stay abroad should be an integral component within the training for motivated, dedicated and high performing trainees in their second and third year which will pave their way after a successful completion of the training. Very important to us is, in addition to the intensive development of foreign language skills the aspect of personality development and the development of intercultural competence. The stay abroad lasts for four weeks. In the first week, the trainees take part in an intensive English language course, this is followed by a three-week internship. The trainees are housed during their stay with a host family. Before the trip the participating students are thoroughly prepared for their stay. All organizational aspects such as travel planning, insurance and what to do in an emergency case, as well as intercultural topics will be reviewed with an English coach. We work closely with the project partner organization Tellus Group in the UK. The partner organization takes over the placement of practical operations and the homestay. The experiences we have gained in a previous project (Leonardo da Vinci) with foreign assignments has proved to us how valuable and lasting these stays are for our trainees. After the return of the trainees, their personal development, especially self-esteem and independence was noticeably improved. After completion of training the opportunity to be offered a contract has visibly risen. It now shows that the posts offered to our commercial trainees are of a higher quality. The demand from our departments for employees with an international and highly qualified education could be partly fulfilled through this project.
