School Development of Centre de Logopédie
Start date: Jan 21, 2015, End date: Dec 31, 2016 PROJECT  FINISHED

The ‘Centre de Logopédie’ is the only specialised school for deaf children (that means children with all degrees of hearing impairment) and speech/language impaired children in Luxembourg. In this public school all deaf children and their families are supported from the moment on, the diagnosis is made, till the end of their school attendance. With the beginning of school attendance, deaf children can attend a class at Centre de Logopédie or are supported by a specialised peripatetic teacher (“professeur d’enseignement logopédique”) of Centre de Logopédie at regular school. The Centre de Logopédie are also responsible for the screening in the field of speech/language impairment of all the preschool children of the country (cycle 1). The Centre de Logopédie is the main institution for the diagnosis of special language impairment (SLI) in Luxembourg. In this highly specific field, it is very important to stay in regular contact with specialists and organisations from abroad. Only the exchange and the transfer of knowledge and expertise in the international context makes innovation possible. The main areas for continuous improvement based on international contacts for Centre de Logopédie are:- Exchange, communication and contact with international specialists,- Teacher training in the areas of deaf education and education of speech and language impaired children including diagnostics, early intervention/education, teaching, technical progress, sign language skills,- Exchange with schools in foreign countries which our pupils may attend after leaving Centre de Logopédie or the regular school where they are supported by Centre de Logopédie,- Contact and exchange with CI-Centers and hospitals abroad, where our pupils are implanted or medically accompanied. In this context it is important to outline that there is no Cochlear Implant Center in Luxembourg, so that all children who are getting implanted, have to attend a clinic in a foreign country!).The expected impact on our participants is an increasing knowledge and an improvement of specific skills and in addition a thrust of motivation for the whole team of Centre de Logopédie. The intended improvement will be pursued by the participation at some of the important congresses of our specific field specific, by attending high quality specific training courses, by a regular participation of the school board at the "Bundesdirektorenkonferenz, Budiko" (Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Leiterinnen und Leiter der Bildungseinrichtungen für Gehörlose und Schwerhörige der deutschsprachigen Länder) and by a regular exchange with specific schools and institutions of the "Grande Région" and beyond working in the same field than Centre de Logopédie. In addition an exchange and a collaboration with the CI-implanting hospitals in the neighbouring countries should be established or boosted in order to optimise the support for the pupils of Centre de Logopédie.29 participants from Centre de Logopédie, belonging to different professional groups (professeurs d'enseignement logopédique, institutrices, éducatrices graduées) will be involved in this program. The staff participating in the project will play the role of knowledge multiplier. New aspects will be implemented in the work of internal school development. The recommendations for implementation will be addressed to the SchEG-group (school development) and monitored after one year (have the recommendations been implemented or not? why?).The main resulting aspects will be disseminated on the website of Centre de Logopédie and, if possible, in the local press.
