Ready to use English
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

C.P. San Cucao is an Infant and Primary state school which is currently developing the project “English in the Playground” in order to promote the use of English in real contexts of communication, so that students perceive the language as a vehicle of communication and not just as a subject. In addition, the school has in perspective to take part in the bilingual project established in our autonomous community. Almost all teachers will be involved in KA1 Project but only four teachers will attend to the courses abroad. Their selection has been based on their teaching career, skills and enthusiasm. Teachers have two profiles: a first group that has knowledge of the foreign language and are interested in developing quality in their teaching practice, and a second group whose knowledge is under level B2, but who are interested in developing their communicative competence in English language on the purpose of participating in the linguistic project of the school centre. Different activities will be developed for two school years. A workshop will be created in the school in order to increase the participants’ oral competence in English and to manage the linguistic project. Different courses will be carried out in the United Kingdom on methodology and language communication. A plan that allows the use of English in the school playground will be developed. Also, complementary activities will be planned to use English. The methodology to be used will be active and centred on a communicative approach. The school workshop will be the vehicle for previous organisation, experimentation, reflection, monitoring and any modifications the project may need. Regarding the impact and expected short-term benefits, students’ and teachers’ linguistic competences will be increased both in the classroom of English and in real communicative contexts. In the medium and long term, English will be perceived as a means of communication, which is the main purpose of our linguistic school project. In addition, the teaching staff will generate new points of view with regard to the strategies, ideas and teaching materials that will help motivate students. Also, there will be a greater knowledge of different European education systems as well as an intercultural awareness which will be transmitted to the students. On the other hand, the development of this project will provide teachers with the opportunity for establishing links with other European schools. The impact will be measured through official Administration assessment (both internal and external) as well as surveys aimed at students families and the teaching staff. Finally, this project will help our school to be perceived as a benchmark in standars of the treatment of languages.
