Latvia-Lithuania Cross Border Cooperation Programme 2007 - 2013 Retrocross without borders (Retrocross)
Start date: Feb 13, 2012, End date: Oct 30, 2012 PROJECT  FINISHED

There are a number of people in Lithuania and Latvia today who are interested in the reconstruction, renovation, repair and exploitation of antiquarian and soviet motorcycles which are no longer produced. Young people are especially interested in this activity because they want to feel themselves how their parents and grandparents used to go in for sports. Various Latvian motor fans or enthusiasts organize low-level retro cross races alone without even knowing that analogue races are held the same day in Lithuania and vice versa. Due to a lack of financial sources, uncentralized races are organized by unqualified organizers, therefore such races are unsafe. Therefore, the project aims to establish a harmonious Lithuanian and Latvian retro cross community. In order to reach this goal, the following issues shall be taken into consideration: education in the field of retro cross, sharing of the best social practices between Lithuania and Latvia, organization of retro cross sports and leisure events, ensuring technical and tactical preparation as well as safety of Lithuanian and Latvian race participants. This project is intended to the residents of Kurzeme, Zemgale and Latgale in Latvia and the residents of Klaipeda, Telsiai, Siauliai, Panevezys and Utena regions in Lithuania. Two motor clubs Klaipedos Vorai (Lithuania) and Grifs (Latvia) which focus on the organization of motor sports and cultural events will cooperate during the project. Lithuanian-Latvian retro cross championship is planned during the project, which will consist of the following 6 stages: 3 stages in Lithuania and 3 stages in Latvia; rally in the border regions of Lithuania and Latvia, and the seminars on retro cross. And Final Retrocross event, which is important for the project as summarizing event for all retrocross stages and Rally in Lithuania and Latvia.Motor sport is a great alternative for young people who are nowadays inclined to drink alcohol, take drugs, smoke or intoxicate themselves in other ways. This project is a good promotion of healthy lifestyle, technical creativity and citizenship. Expected Results: 6 Retro cross stages (3 in Lithuania and 3 in Latvia), and Lithuanian - Latvian rally. We are planning to involve equal number of participants for retrocros and rally. We will involve 290 participants from Lithuania and 280 from Latvia. Website will be created for retro cross community. The community members can find there the news about retro cross and rally events in Lithuania and Latvia. Also community members, can find there important and interesting information about retro motorcycles and history. And they can share them experience too. The lead partner responsible for website.
