PROJECT
FINISHED
As a parent and a teacher I realise the importance of children learning a new European language from a young age. This project will give me an opportunity to improve my own standard of French and more importantly to develop the skills and techniques necessary to start a language programme in our school. I am teaching in a small, country school in West Cork, Ireland. It is very important for me that the children in our school are aware of being a part of Europe and that there is a European dimension to the teaching in our school. I hope that I can use what I learn during the immersion course to initiate a French language programme for our school. All resources, materials and teaching strategies will be shared with all teaching staff to ensure it is a whole school project. I hope that we can use the scratch computer programme, FIS(film in schools), and music /dance classes already established in our school to include a European aspect. When the children leave our school in 6th class they will be learning French in the local secondary school. If the children can avail of a French language course while in primary school it will have positive long term benefits for them in terms of fluency, vocabulary and ultimately in exam results . I would also like to find a partner school in France and meet teachers from France so that we can exchange ideas and resources and start a project between schools. The pupils can use ICT to communicate with the schools. I would like to initiate an Etwinning project with a school in France so that we can share lessons in the areas of language, culture, traditions, history, sport and local environment. Finally, I believe such a project will have a very positive impact on the Eyeries community through links with the French in the area, tourism, tidy towns and promotion of the Beara area.
