Innovación educativa en un contexto europeo
Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The main objective of our project is to consolidate the modernization of our Secondary School (IES de Beade, Vigo, Spain) within two main aspects in a parallel way: to enhance the educational practice and skills of our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) teachers, focusing on innovative teaching and learning techniques like inquiry based science learning, as an effective path to develop students' talents and potentials, at the same time that we promote our school in an international level, learning about other countries approaches to the same problem and sharing experiences with our European colleagues.A group of our school teachers has been working collaboratively within the field of innovative teaching for a couple of years. We thought that a specialized training on this subject, directly applied to the science-related curricula, and held on an international context, would be the logical next step to our main objective. That's why we want to select four teachers within this group, all with a scientific degree and with a well-demonstrated interest and implication on innovative teaching practices, to attend three of the courses organized by the Inspiring Science Education Academy, to be held on 3rd- 15th July 2016. The courses contents specifically cover our needs of improving our skills in developing teaching scenarios where inquiry based science education, with the aid of online and open tools like virtual labs or resource repositories, can lead students to a better and more active understanding of science concepts and applications. We believe the requested mobilities will have a great impact on our school community, improving the teaching practice not only of the teachers attending the courses, as these would act as change agents introducing their colleagues to the methodologies, resources and skills just learned. We also consider that a good number of students would benefit, in the following school years, of these innovative practices, and hope their academic results, knowledge and comprehension of the STEM subjects would considerably improve. Finally, we hope this project will be the initial shed for a progressive international projection of our school, expanding the employment of the eTwinning plataform among our teachers, both to develop educational projects with our students and to search for partners for future and more evolved mobility oportunities within the Erasmus+ program, such as job shadowing or student mobilities.
