The Commission’s multilingualism policy aims to promote linguistic diversity in European society and a healthy multilingual economy towards integrating multilingual facilities to the challenges stated in FP7 ICT and Security work programmes. According to the framework strategy of European Commission for multilingualism, multilingual speech technologies, automatic machine translation systems and multimodal interactive solutions are accepted as a part of European Research Area (ERA). Therefore, in order to bridge different nations to a greater solidarity and mutual understanding, multilingual automatic systems including Turkish are supported. Since Turkish is widely spoken in EU and is the primary language of a candidate country to EU, a great research and development effort is required to integrate Turkish with other languages spoken in EU. With this respect, MULTISAUND will improve the existing scientific and technological capacity of MTRD in speech and language technologies by enabling MTRD to improve its existing know-how in an efficient way and by leading MTRD to new joint research opportunities in FP7/FP8. This project will help MTRD to share its experience and capabilities with national and international collaborators. The results and dissemination activities of this project will enhance the awareness towards interactive speech and language technologies especially in Turkish. MULTISAUND will also enable MTRD to strengthen its visibility and links with the social and economic environment both in national and international level. The proposed project will be a great opportunity to establish environments that will allow exploiting MTRD’s research potential and contributing to regional development. This project will also enable to take the knowledge and experience existing in other regions of Europe and exchange of MTRD’s existing know-how with other research entities in Europe.
