1+2 is a Government initiative which states by 2020 all children should be engaging with 2 additional languages. In our school cluster the first language the pupils will be engaging in is French. To meet this target, the staff in schools need to develop their own French language skills. We have attended local authority provided training sessions. Each school in our authority was given the opportunity to attend and Immersion course in France. Three teachers from our school volunteered to attend the course training us in developing our French spoken language but also to develop an understanding of French culture. Our overall aim is to embed the French language and culture in our school with staff being confident in their own abilities. We also hope to share what we learn to ensure the school benefits from the course training. In turn, we will then be able to meet the new 1+2 Government initiative.We would hope to meet other likeminded individuals who are looking to further their professional development and work as part of a team to produce and share resources to enhance our classroom practise. The aim is to make links with French schools and businesses whom we can develop relationships with via the use of current ICT in the classroom. Giving the children opportunities to engage with French individuals regularly. We also hope to update parents via our school website.Overall, we hope to pass on our enthusiasm for learning other languages to the pupils in our class, school and local authority.
