Start date: Jun 1, 2016, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The mission of the NGO Österreichischer Auslandsdienst (Austrian Service Abroad) is to send young Austrians for 3 to 12 months to institutions mainly working in the field of Holocaust Remembrance, Holocaust Education and/or Jewish Culture. Since several year there is also a thematic priority on Roma issues. The participants go abroad right after having finished their secondary education or vocational education to gather professional experience and discuss the Austrian and European view on the topics mentioned above in order to foster international and intercultural dialogue.By working with one of our partner organizations, participants deal intensively with the events of the Second World War and not only learn about anti-Semitism and racism, but also teach and educate others. The program is an unique opportunity for the participants to work in a country with a different language and culture, making them more valuable to the labor market because of their widened horizon. It also shows them, that their attitudes and actions do matter and it is everyone’s responsibility to contribute to a peaceful Europe and historical consciousness.
