INS Salvador Dalí is a secondary school located in El Prat de Llobregat (Barcelona). It has 4 classes for each of the compulsory education years and 3 for the upper-secondary education (bachillerato).One of the targets set in the Annual School Plan is to improve oral competence in English of our students in all their years of compulsory and non-compulsory education. To achieve this goal, the Language Department designed an activity per year (fashion show, storytelling, drama, TV programme, short film, advertisement). It has been appreciated a need for wider training in drama techniques in order to increase quality of teaching practice regarding these aspects.The course Drama in Language Education meets the training needs that teachers in our school require to improve oral competence in English of our students, since the topics include vocabulary, pronunciation and intonation, use of voice, scripts, improvisation and dramatization of plays; notwithstanding the benefits that drama provide to students as comprehensive education (self-confidence, self-steem, belonging to a group, etc.). On the other hand, teachers taking part in this programme may have the chance to contact colleagues from all over Europe which may lead to a future collaboration, joined project or an exchange.Participating in this course will benefit our students directly, since they will have better trained teachers to implement these teaching practices. The outcomes will be shared and disseminated with all the teachers in language department through meetings, documents and sharing the portfolio.
