Europe needs a radical rethinking on how education and training systems can deliver the skills needed by the labour market. The European Commission launched a new strategy called Rethinking Education to encourage Member States to take immediate action to ensure that young people develop the skills and competences needed for employment and career.

An expert report, which was published by the European Commission at the beginning of 2010, comes to the result, that Europeans need to orientate their competences more and better to the demands of the labour market.
