About Me

Dr Ana Cristina Paixão Casaca obtained her elementary and complementary nautical studies degrees at Escola Náutica Infante D. Henrique (ENIDH), Portugal. She was a deck officer in Portuguese shipping companies and lectured at the Instituto de Tecnologias Náuticas. After getting her Bachelor degree in 1995 from ENIDH, she got her Degree in International Logistics at the Institute of Marine Studies, University of Plymouth in 1997. Her will to carry out research work led her to proceed with her in International Transport/Logistics at the University of Wales-Cardiff, which successfully finalised in 2003. Between 1998 and 2007, she published several articles of a professional nature in some industry magazines, but her interest in research lead her to publish several research papers in well-known international maritime related journals. Since 2003, she has been invited by the European Commission to evaluate transport related proposals and to review transport related projects and to peer review academic papers submitted to well-known international Journals. She organised in cooperation with Cargo Edições and chaired the 2010 Annual Conference of the International Association of Maritime Economists and in 2012 the International Research Conference on Short Sea Shipping. Presently, she is developing and implementing the World of Shipping Portugal project which delivers Knowledge, Training and Translation Services within the scope of Maritime Economics. She is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS), of the International Maritime Economists Association (IAME) and of the Women's International Shipping and Trading Association Portugal (WISTA Portugal).
